17 de ene. de 2024 · Smile was left unfinished as the band immediately moved onto the recording of the albums Lei'd in Hawaii (unreleased) and Wild Honey (December 1967). Smiley Smile has since become a critical and cult favorite, garnering repute as a chill-out album, and influencing the development of lo-fi, ambient music, and bedroom pop.
After months of hype, Brian's mind stopped functioning almost overnight, and the symphonic "Smile" concept album never came out. So instead the Beach Boys rushed out a collection of fragments and outtakes called Smiley Smile, and followed it up a few months later with an all-new group of originals called Wild Honey.

Smiley Smile isn’t the most hifi sounding record anyway, but this UK pressing is vastly better than the dreadful butchery EMI made of Pet Sounds. Don’t know if they had a mono tape or the post Duophonic fake stereo Capitol used folded down better, but it’s very listenable.
