  3. After their post-Steppenwolf projects failed to find an audience, in 1974 the group re-formed with a lineup of John Kay, Jerry Edmonton, Goldy McJohn, George Biondo, and guitarist Bobby Cochran. The new edition of Steppenwolf signed with the CBS-distributed MUMS label, which released Slow Flux in 1974.

The vocal power of John Kay is undiminished, and forcefully backed up by the tight rhythms of the instrumentation provided by band members and guest musicians. To my ear some of the backing music seems to have Deep Purple and Styx influences.

  7. Steppenwolf reformulou-se em 1974 e editaram o LP Slow Flux, mas voltaram a separar-se em 1976. Durante o período compreendido entre 1977 e 1980, a banda reuniu-se para uma formação fixa, desta vez sem Kay. Chegaram a gravar um disco de estúdio, Night of the Wolf em 1979, que permanece inédito.
