Steppenwolf reformulou-se em 1974 e editaram o LP Slow Flux, mas voltaram a separar-se em 1976. Durante o período compreendido entre 1977 e 1980, a banda reuniu-se para uma formação fixa, desta vez sem Kay. Chegaram a gravar um disco de estúdio, Night of the Wolf em 1979, que permanece inédito.
After their post-Steppenwolf projects failed to find an audience, in 1974 the group re-formed with a lineup of John Kay, Jerry Edmonton, Goldy McJohn, George Biondo, and guitarist Bobby Cochran. The new edition of Steppenwolf signed with the CBS-distributed MUMS label, which released Slow Flux in 1974.
Steppenwolf released three albums during this period, the most successful being "Slow Flux". After three albums, Steppenwolf was dissolved in 1976. The group was re-formed in 1980 and broke up for the last time in 2018. Steppenwolf's newest studio album was Rise & Shine, released in 1990.

Slow Flux (1974) amorce la deuxième phase discographique de Steppenwolf, séparé depuis 1972, le jour de la St Valentin, après avoir pris une veste avec For Ladies Only. Il se reforme pour sillonner, avec succès, les routes du Vieux Continent et sort trois albums pour le label Epic (plus exactement Mums).
