The Byrds in 1970. (L–R) Roger McGuinn, Skip Battin, Clarence White, Gene Parsons. Battin is probably best known as bass guitarist and songwriter with the Byrds from 1970 to 1973. He was—by eight years—the oldest member of the Byrds. He recorded three albums with them and toured extensively.
Following the dismissal of the Byrds' bass player, John York, in September 1969, Skip Battin was recruited as a replacement at the suggestion of drummer Gene Parsons and guitarist Clarence White. Battin was, at 35, the oldest member of the band and the one with the longest musical history.

Clarence White (born Clarence Joseph LeBlanc; June 7, 1944 – July 15, 1973) was an American bluegrass and country guitarist and singer. He is best known as a member of the bluegrass ensemble the Kentucky Colonels and the rock band the Byrds, as well as for being a pioneer of the musical genre of country rock during the late 1960s.
The new band featured Clarence White on electric guitar, Roger McQuinn on lead guitar, Gene Parsons on drums, and John York and Skip Battin on bass. The band put out several albums that would go on to enjoy commercial success. The five albums released by Clarence White and The Byrds were: Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde (1969)
