It was founded in 1552 by Edward VI by Royal Charter, to reconstitute the town's collegiate foundations of the 6th and 10th centuries which were disestablished in the reformation.

Shrewsbury’s main industries include malting and the manufacture of rolling stock, machine tools, safes, and electrical equipment.

Founded in 1868 by the Sisters of Mercy, it caters for boys and girls from 3 – 11 years and has a long tradition of high academic standards.
