When Sharpe and Harper arrive in England, they are informed that there are 700 men waiting for them in Chelmsford, but on arrival, he finds the barracks deserted with no sign of his missing regiment.

Rossendale first appeared as a galloper in Sharpe's Regiment, carrying an invitation to Sharpe to appear before the Prince Regent. He was friendly and rather impressed by Sharpe.
