He recruited some local friends and bandmates, Johnny Hickman and Bob Rupe from Cracker and Jonathan Segal from Camper to help create an eclectic array of sounds.

The result is that several of Magnet's songs end up sounding exactly like something from Lowery's own outfit Cracker. Where Shark Bait works best is when Goodman is allowed to filter his music through groups like the Velvet Underground, Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, and early David Bowie.

David Charles Lowery (born September 10, 1960) is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, mathematician, and activist. He is the founder of the alternative rock band Camper Van Beethoven and the co-founder of Cracker, a more traditional rock band. Lowery released his first solo album, The Palace Guards, in February 2011.
