The serial tells the story of the Moors murders, which were committed, between July 1963 and October 1965, by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady.
After the murderous couple lures David to Myra's home to witness the killing of 17-year-old Edward Evans, Ian is arrested but Myra is allowed to walk free. Maureen refuses to believe that her sister may be involved in a murder even as police find damning evidence out on the moors.
