Downliners Sect are an English R&B and blues-based rock band, formed in the 1960s beat boom era. Stylistically, they were similar to blues-based bands such as The Yardbirds, The Pretty Things and the Rolling Stones, playing basic R&B on their first album The Sect.
Contemporaries of the Rolling Stones and Yardbirds, the Downliners Sect was formed by deerstalker-hatted rhythm guitarist Don Craine in the spring of 1963. Their brash and exciting brand of R&B soon gained them a residency at London’s Studio 51 club where they recorded their first E.P.

Profile: Downliners Sect were a British 1960s group with an R&B style similar to The Yardbirds or Rolling Stones, formed by rhythm guitarist/vocalist Mick O'Donnell with drummer Johnny Sutton when their group the Downliners disbanded after a disastrous French tour.
The story of the Sect starts in Twickenham, a London suburb back in 1962 when a young man named Micks O’Donnell started a band called the Downliners (after the Jerry Lee Lewis song "Down The Line". After some member changes and a disastrous tour to France, the band split in the beginning of 1963.
The Downliners Sect has continued to develope whilst firmly retaining it's roots and reputation for high energy R&B. Until 2022 the band was led by founder Don Craine on guitar & vocals; original frontman Keith Grant on vocals & bass. In 2007, the harmonica player Paul Tiller left the band and was replaced by John O'Leary.
