Originally, plans for a double album were deemed over enthusiastic by their record label, and by the time the new album was released, Groucutt had left the band and Bev Bevan was drumming for Black Sabbath, so no tour was undertaken.
“Secret Messages” is a song that holds a special place in my heart, not only because of its catchy melodies and infectious grooves but also because of the deeper meaning hidden within its lyrics. The song begins with a prelude that plays the words backward, a clever artistic choice by lead songwriter Jeff Lynne.

Secret Messages est un album d'Electric Light Orchestra sorti en 1983. Conception ... (1974) avait déjà été accusé (sans fondement) de contenir des messages cachés, et Jeff Lynne avait inclus un message caché dans l'album suivant du groupe, Face the Music, disant « La musique peut être inversée, mais pas le cours du temps.

Secret Messages is, well, different. The title track is still a bright and new-wave ELO track that blends into Loser Gone Wild as seamlessly as Back in the U.S.S.R. to Dear Prudence. There are a lot of good things to be said about this album, but there are some aesthetic contingencies that make people overall dislike it.
