    The San Francisco Art Institute at 800 Chestnut St. (1961-2022). In 1871 the San Francisco Art Association (SFAA) was founded by local artists and supporters to promote art in the city. In 1874 the SFAA founded the California School of Design (CSD) and began offering classes. This was SFAI in its earliest incarnation.
