Rupert Lisburn Gwynne Davies FRSA (22 May 1916 – 22 November 1976) was a British actor best remembered for playing the title role in the BBC 's 1960s television adaptation of Maigret, based on Georges Simenon 's novels. Life and career. Military service. Davies was born in Liverpool.
Rupert Davies (1916-1976) was a British actor who starred in The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Waterloo and My Friend Charles. He also played Chief Inspector Jules Maigret in several TV adaptations of Georges Simenon's novels.
Based on the Maigret stories of Georges Simenon, the series starred Rupert Davies in the title role. Unlike most BBC series produced in the 1960s, all episodes (bar the pilot) have survived intact, and are available as a complete set on DVD and Blu-ray. In 2022 the series was broadcast by UK television channel Talking Pictures TV.
