We're home to Britain's longest established art school, the RA Schools. Every year since 1768 we've held an annual Summer Exhibition, the largest open-submission art exhibition in the world. We present our collection of art and architecture in free displays throughout our home on Piccadilly.
Website. royalacademy.org.uk. The Royal Academy of Arts ( RA) is an art institution based in Burlington House in Piccadilly in London, England. Founded in 1768, it has a unique position as an independent, privately funded institution led by eminent artists and architects.
You can search across the RA Collection, including our archive and library. Try searching for an artwork, or looking for a colour, medium or technique. You can also discover all of the artists (Royal Academicians) who have run the Academy since its foundation in 1768 to the present day.
Run without interruption since 1769, the Summer Exhibition showcases art in all forms, from prints, painting, film and photography, to architectural works and sculpture by invited artists, Royal Academicians and emerging talent. After two years in winter, it's back where it should be.
