Rova Saxophone Quartet is an American, San Francisco–based saxophone quartet, formed in October 1977. The name "Rova" is an acronym formed from the last initials of the founding members: Jon Raskin [ de ] , Larry Ochs , Andrew Voigt, and Bruce Ackley.
Rova Sax Quartet plays compositions by Fred Frith, Henry Kaiser and Rova. Morphological Echo 1994. This Time We Are Both. ROVA QUARTET RECORDED ON TOUR IN THE USSR IN 1989. Rova Saxophone Quartet. San Francisco, California.
About Rova Saxophone Quartet. Think of the human voice in music. The most primal of instruments, it can melt you or move you to tears on the spot. Then it’s the saxophone, one-step removed from the human voice, and the next most powerful messenger in music.
Rova: THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF REASON. Bruce Ackley – soprano and tenor saxophones. Steve Adams – alto and sopranino saxophones. Larry Ochs – tenor sax. Jon Raskin – baritone sax.
Over its four-plus decades, the quartet has defined itself by applying an array of improvisational strategies to an ever-expanding body of new music. The Circumference of Reason includes six tracks composed or, in the case of the piece "NC17," designed between 2011 and 2016.
