Fellow band mate and founder, guitarist Derek 'Mo' Moore confirmed the news with a post on social media earlier today. Howden had endured various health problems in recent years, including battling and beating cancer in 2016.

Ron Howden, the drummer and founding member for 1970s-era progressive rock band Nektar, died September 29, 2023. His death, at age 78, was confirmed by the band’s co-founder and bass player, Derek “Mo” Moore, on his Facebook page:
As a musician, Ron Howden is unique; as a drummer, he is unmistakable; to watch him perform on his instrument is like watching a finely tuned, well balanced timepiece. Nektar’s music would not be what it is today without his expertise.
