STRAWBS, the “Hero And Heroine” line-up, 1973: Chas Cronk, Dave Lambert, Rod Coombes, David Cousins, John Hawken. The split in 1973 came after a long period of disagreements and tensions. During the final US tour, I spent a lot of time trying to bring the two sides together and stop the break-up happening.
1963–1972. The Strawbs were formed as the Strawberry Hill Boys in early 1963, made up of Dave Cousins on vocals, guitar and banjo; Tony Hooper on guitar, percussion and vocals; and Arthur Phillips on mandolin and vocals. In June 1964, Phillips left and double bassist "Talking" John Berry took over as the band's third member. Berry was replaced by Ron Chesterman in the autumn of 1966.
Rodney Coombes (born 15 May 1946) is an English musician. He was mostly known from playing drums with British bands Stealers Wheel in 1972 to 1973 and again in 2008 and Strawbs from 1974 to 1977 and again from 2004 to 2010.
