Augo darbininkų šeimoje (tėvas buvo išeivių iš Lietuvos sūnus). Nuo 13 m. filmavo mėgėjiška kino kamera. 1973 baigė Pietų Kalifornijos universiteto Kino ir televizijos mokyklą Los Andžele.
