Robbie Lodermeier: The Long Winters are an American indie rock band based in Seattle, Washington. History. Singer-songwriter John Roderick was born in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. He later returned to Seattle, where he formed the Bun Family Players and The Western State Hurricanes.

An inauspicious debut from Seattle's indie pop also-rans the Long Winters. The Worst You Can Do Is Harm introduces the band's mix of literate indie pop with occasionally twangy, acoustic-driven songwriter fare. The Michael Stipe-esque baritone vocals of John Roderick also invite obvious comparisons to R.E.M., although those similarities would become more obvious on When I Pretend to Fall.
