The first two tracks were recorded in 1970 by the original Byrds. Well, to be honest, Clark laid doen the basic tracks with Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke, while Roger McGuinn and David Crosby were hauled in seperately to add their background harmonies and trademark guitar fills.

Bassist Chris Hillman noted years later in an interview remembering Clark, "At one time, he was the power in the Byrds, ... they were included later on the 1973 album Roadmaster. In 1970 and 1971, Clark contributed vocals and two compositions ("Tried So Hard" and "Here Tonight") to albums by the Flying Burrito Brothers.
