Ritchie Blackmore nació el 14 de abril de 1945, en Weston (Inglaterra) pero a sus 2 años se muda junto a su familia a Heston, por motivos de trabajo de padre.. Fue en esta ciudad donde comenzó a interesarse por la música de artistas como Bill Haley, Elvis Presley y Buddy Holly. En el año 1956, a sus 11 años de edad, su padre le hace un regalo: su primera guitarra acústica.
