I personally have so far subscribed to the theory that all the Planet of the Apes movies besides the Tim Burton one, take place in the same universe. However, going by that logic, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, retroactively rewrites history, preventing the events of Rise, Dawn, War and Kingdom from ever taking place, which I know probably annoys a fair amount of people.
