The initial idea for A Gallery of the Imagination stems from Rick's first piano teacher, Mrs Symes, with whom he studied from the age of five until his time at the Royal College of Music. She taught him that music was like painting pictures: when you play, you are painting pictures through music, an important lesson Rick never forgot.

Rick Wakeman, né le 18 mai 1949 à Perivale, est un claviériste et compositeur britannique. Par son jeu de scène flamboyant (sa fameuse cape), il s'est fait connaître au sein des groupes Strawbs et Yes (dont il a été membre par intermittence à cinq reprises), et poursuit depuis le début des années 1970 une carrière solo prolifique comptant plus d'une centaine d'albums.
