Rick & the Ravens was an American surf rock and frat rock band founded in 1961, known as the forerunner of the Doors. Members Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Jim Morrison renamed the group in the latter half of 1965 after joining forces with Robby Krieger.

by Richie Unterberger. Rick & the Ravens are solely known for including Ray Manzarek on keyboards and vocals and recording three rare mid-'60s singles before the formation of the Doors. Manzarek is the singer on all of these, and the writer of four of the six songs.
Rick And The Ravens. The original surf-rock band which Ray Manzarek belonged to prior to forming The Doors. On September 2, 1965, the group, which at that time included Jim Morrison as lead singer and John Densmore on drums, recorded what would become The Doors' original 6-song acetate demo.
