Regina Spektor è nata a Mosca, nell'allora Unione Sovietica, da una famiglia di musicisti di origine ebraica . Suo padre Il'ja Spektor, fotografo [2], era anche violinista e sua madre una professoressa di musica in un istituto superiore. Quest'ultima attualmente insegna in una scuola pubblica elementare nel Mount Vernon, New York.
