Brenton Wood. Alfred Jesse Smith (born July 26, 1941), [1] better known as Brenton Wood, is an American singer and songwriter known for his three 1967 hit singles, "The Oogum Boogum Song" (peaking at No. 34 on the US Billboard Hot 100 ), "Gimme Little Sign" (peaking at No. 9), and "Baby You Got It" (also peaking at No. 34).
Brenton Wood, es un cantante y compositor de soul nacido el 26 de julio de 1941 en Shreveport, Luisiana conocido por su impredictible fraseo y positividad. Nació con el nombre de Alfred Jesse Smith y con pocos años se trasladó a San Pedro (California). Desde pequeño aprendió a tocar el piano, y en su juventud empezó a formar parte de conjuntos vocales de soul.
Brenton Wood's charmingly unpredictable phrasing and his infectious sense of good times made the smooth uptown soul of "The Oogum Boogum Song" and "Gimme Little Sign" into hits in 1967. Despite his skill as a pop-soul vocalist, Wood was never able to match such heights again, yet those two songs became genuine R&B classics of their era.
