Reaching for the Moon (Portuguese: Flores Raras, "Rare Flowers") is a 2013 Brazilian biographical drama film, written by Julie Sayres and Matthew Chapman, directed by Bruno Barreto. The film is based on the book Flores Raras e Banalíssimas (in English, Rare and Commonplace Flowers), by Carmem L. Oliveira.

Summaries. A chronicle of the tragic love affair between American poet Elizabeth Bishop and Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares. Synopsis. Elizabeth Bishop (Miranda Otto) is a middle age, aspiring poet, under tutelage of Robert Lowell (Treat Williams). Lowell loves Elizabeth, but she doesn't encourage "his weekly attacks on her virtue".
The film focuses on Bishop's romance with architect Lota de Macedo Soares in Rio, where she lived and wrote for 15 years. It shows her struggles with alcoholism, inspiration and love, but lacks depth and insight into her art and life.
