RAY STILES. Ray Stiles started playing bass at the age of 14 on a guitar made by his dad. His musical influences were the beat groups of the early 60s; including The Hollies. He joined Mud in 1966 and turned professional in 1968. The band enjoyed fourteen top twenty hits, including three number one records, and performed all over the country.

The band was founded by lead guitarist Rob Davis, lead vocalist Les Gray, drummer Dave Mount (born 3 March 1947, Carshalton; died 2 December 2006, St Helier Hospital, Carshalton) and bassist Ray Stiles (born 20 November 1946, Guildford, Surrey).

Ray Stiles is a former member of the British pop group the Hollies, who co-owns a recording studio and plays in his own band Taboo. He also did some studio work for the recent Buddy Holly tribute album and was replaced by Steve Stroud on bass for the 1996 tour.
