Shivaji Rao Gaikwad (born 12 December 1950), known professionally as Rajinikanth (/ r ə ˌ dʒ ɪ n ɪ ˈ k ɑː n t / rə-JIN-ih-KAHNTH), is an Indian actor who works mainly in Tamil cinema. In a career spanning over five decades, he has done 170 films that includes films in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam.
Rajinikanth is a superstar in the Tamil movie industry since the 70s, with a unique acting style and trademark gestures. He has also worked in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Hollywood movies, and has received several honors and awards for his contributions to the arts.
