The story goes that Rubin pitched the idea for the song after hearing Jay scratching the introductory drum break to Aerosmith’s original version (from their 1975 album Toys in the Attic ) in the studio.

The album opens with DJ Run and DMC rapping one word each on the nursery-rhyme themed “Peter Piper” in an introduction to their legendary chemistry on the mic.
