Radia Perlman is a computer scientist and engineer who invented the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) for network routing and security. She also developed algorithms for link state protocols such as IS-IS and OSPF. She has 80 patents, 40 of them while working for Sun Microsystems, and has written or co-written two textbooks on network protocols.
