Five Miles Out, the album, was more popular than Oldfield's previous few releases. It charted at No. 7 in the UK , whereas both QE2 (1980) and Platinum (1979) had failed to reach the top twenty. Oldfield's commercial revival would continue with subsequent albums Crises (1983) and Discovery (1984).
QE2 is the sixth studio album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1980 on Virgin Records. The album was named after the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 . The album contained both original Oldfield compositions as well as two cover versions of pieces recorded by other bands (" Arrival " by ABBA and " Wonderful Land " by The Shadows ).

The sets included all of Tubular Bells Part One, some of Ommadawn, Platinum, QE2 and most of the Five Miles Out album. It was a two-hour performance. Mike's Five Miles Out was based on this experience. On 31 October QE2 was issued. The primary consequence for Mike of the second tour was pecuniary. Post QE2, he said, "I'm not into losing money any more. You know, in that first tour I really wanted to take the whole thing on - now I'd have somebody to look after the orchestra.
