CULTURE BALMAIN. Fondée en 1945 par Pierre Balmain, la Maison parisienne éponyme s’est fait un nom en cassant les codes d’une mode jusqu’alors fonctionnelle. Son but : créer des pièces élégantes et féminines mettant en lumière broderies somptueuses et tailles cintrées.
Né juste avant le début de la Grande Guerre, Pierre Balmain fonde sa maison éponyme juste après la libération de Paris, à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Les débuts du couturier sont donc étroitement liés aux tumultes, aux tragédies et à la résurrection de l'Europe de la première moitié du XXe siècle.
Pierre Balmain was only 30 years old in August 1944, when Paris was liberated. And once freedom arrived, Balmain decided it was time to find his own couture house, quickly setting up his atelier inside a recently vacated space on 44 Rue de François Premier—one which had been previously requisitioned by the Nazis during the long occupation.
