Grover Washington Jr. (December 12, 1943 – December 17, 1999) was an American jazz-funk and soul-jazz saxophonist and Grammy Award winner. Along with Wes Montgomery and George Benson, he is considered by many to be one of the founders and legends of the smooth jazz genre.
They were discovered by Grover Washington, Jr. whilst performing as the house band on TV show "City Lights". Grover went on to produce their first three albums Pieces of a Dream, We Are One and Imagine This.

Originally somewhat jazz-oriented, Pieces of a Dream have mostly emphasized R&B, although they usually include a few jazz numbers in their performances.
