29 de ene. de 2021 · Phil Manzanera’s life was an unpredictable adventure even before he became Roxy Music’s lead guitarist in 1972, aged 21. His family’s journeys through Latin America included dodging the Cuban Revolution’s bullets, before a childhood Beatles obsession led him to public school in South-east London, where he met an influential neighbour, The Soft Machine’s Robert Wyatt.
In 1975, Manzanera booked a studio for 26 days to record his album Diamond Head and got Quiet Sun together again to record an album from their old composed material in the studio at the same time. This first and only album of theirs, with participation of Brian Eno and the late Ian MacCormick , titled Mainstream , was critically acclaimed and became the New Musical Express ' album of the month.

The longtime guitarist for legendary British art pop sophisticates Roxy Music, Phil Manzanera was born Philip Targett-Adams in London on January 31, 1951. The child of an English father and Colombian mother, he was raised in various spots, including Hawaii and Cuba, and while living in Venezuela began playing guitar at the age of eight.
