Peter Hujar (/ ˈ h uː dʒ ɑːr /; October 11, 1934 – November 26, 1987) was an American photographer best known for his black-and-white portraits. [2] [3] [4] [5] Hujar's work received only marginal public recognition during his lifetime, [5] but he has since been recognized as a major American photographer of the late 20th century.
