The film explores Penny's early struggles as a daughter, mother and housewife, her emergence as an owner and celebrity, and her redemptive role as spokesperson for a great equine athlete.
Penny's unstinting reflection on her life of caged ambition, suddenly liberated by and forever paired with the Triple-Crown-winning racehorse Secretariat, also exemplifies the rise and sacrifices of women of her generation. This new version of the film includes material up to Penny's death in September 2017.
