Oliver Penrose FRS FRSE (born 6 June 1929) is a British theoretical physicist. [1] He is the son of the scientist Lionel Penrose and brother of the mathematical physicist Roger Penrose, chess Grandmaster Jonathan Penrose, and geneticist Shirley Hodgson.
Oliver Penrose. His oldest brother, Oliver Penrose (*1929), was professor of mathematics at the Open University in Milton Keynes, and from 1986 until his retirement in 1994, professor at the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
Oliver Penrose is a Professor Emeritus of Statistics at Heriot-Watt University and a former Professor of Mathematical Physics at the Open University. He has a long-standing interest in statistical mechanics, phase transitions, phase-field models, and related topics. He has published many papers and books on these topics, and is also active in music and chess.
