Many of the tracks on Ocean Rain are perfect singles, capable of becoming huge hits as well as captivating any fan of Indie music. Crystal Days and Seven Seas , specifically, have about as much mainstream potential as anything ever released in the 1980’s (possible exception: a-ha’s Take On Me ).
Echo & The Bunnymen’s 1984 album Ocean Rain rolls up all the drama of its predecessors into an atmospheric masterpiece. The rough-edged post-punk is sanded down into lush acoustic textures on “Silver” and “Nocturnal Me”; hooks are sharpened to a fine edge on the glistening “Crystal Days” and “Seven Seas,” two of the most immediately appealing songs in their catalog.
