And it is without a doubt among the most influential photographic books of the twen- tieth century.
This early book on Richard Avedon presents the photographer’s striking portraits from the 1940s and ’50s of luminaries as well as a profile of Avedon by Truman Capote and literary sketches of the portrait subjects by the novelist.

Erik Palmer, creative director of Vico Collective and teacher of communication theory at Portland State, offered this great comment to Wayne Ford’s synopsis yesterday that we thought was deserving of it’s own post. I own a battered copy of Observations, but had not looked at it in a couple of years.
A striking collection of full-bleed black and white images. A clean very near fine copy in paper covered boards in a very good acetate dust jacket with some large chips/chunks missing and in a near fine slipcase with some light wear. Still a much nicer than usual.
