Northwood originally opened in 1956, but the school was closed in 1985. The expanding student population in the Silver Spring area prompted the re-opening of Northwood in 2004. The new Northwood began with only its freshman class (Class of 2008) and the school gradually grew each year before becoming a four-year high school during the 2007-2008 school year.
Delivery areas consist of neighborhoods around Northwood High School and it’s feeder schools: Downtown Silver Spring, Kemp Mill, and Wheaton (zip codes 20901, 20902, 20910 and parts of 20906 and 20912).
