In a case of mistaken identity, a harmless New York advertising man, Roger Thornhill, becomes the target of foreign agents. After trying to kill him they frame him for murder. North by Northwest became the sixth highest-grossing film on 1959 and would eventually generate a healthy domestic box office return of $13,275,000. In 1995, it became the fourth Hitchcock film to be selected for preservation by the United States National Film Preservation Board and remains one of the most popular Hitchcock films with cinema audiences.
