In 1976, after seeing a couple of punk rock shows at The Roxy, the band decided to become a punk rock band, changing their name at first to the Subversives but later modifying it to the U.K. Subs. The band consisted of founder Charlie Harper, guitarist Nicky Garratt, bassist Paul Slack, and a drummer who went under the name Rory Lyons.

Nicky Garratt. Born in Leicestershire, England in 1955, Nicky Garratt is an internationally recognized guitar player and vegetarian chef. In 1977, he released his first recording (live from the infamous Roxy club in London) with his punk rock band UK Subs. Success followed with five nationally charting albums and eight singles.
26 de nov. de 2021 · Harper is the only constant, although key members/songwriters Nicky Garratt (guitar) and Alvin Gibbs (bass, back since 2003) have returned intermittently. Despite the turbulence, they have produced a raft of enduring songs, and maintained a cohesive sound.
