In an interview with NPR, Simon said, “It’s a song that’s so well-loved, and it’s such a good song. And it had such a long life that I kind of figured it would make it on its own.”

For example seat 1 in section "5" would be on the aisle next to section "4" and the highest seat number in section "5" would be on the aisle next to section "6".

The trip was meant to be a musical exchange program, but Diamond was not allowed to play music with the black South African musicians. He found a loophole and invited the musicians to play with him on his tour bus instead, where they would play in secret.
