It was his first release in four years, although he had been active as a producer in the intervening years. Many of the album's songs deal with loss, self-doubt, jealousy and spiritual recovery.

Nearly Human has some of his greatest songs in the pop mould -- of that there is no doubt. Want Of A Nail and Parallel Lines are two of my favorite Todd songs ever, and his Philly soul-style voice is in top form here.
