Mulholland Drive ging in 2001 in première op het Filmfestival in Cannes en werd daar lovend ontvangen. Lynch werd tijdens het festival genomineerd voor Beste Regie en kreeg later een Oscar-nominatie, eveneens voor Beste Regie.
