In 1962 he went to the USA to continue his studies at the Berklee School. He moved to New York two years later, playing trumpet with Cecil Taylor, among others.

He hit a record 18 home runs in his 12 appearances in the Fall Classic. Mantle was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1974. He passed away on Aug. 13, 1995.
