Mohammed Atef was a high-ranking al-Qaeda military commander and loyal associate of Osama bin Laden. He was involved in several terrorist attacks, including the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings and the September 11, 2001 attacks, and was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan in 2001.
