Hace 5 días · He played drums on Jefferson Airplane’s debut album. He co-founded Moby Grape, a phenomenally talented band who, for various unfortunate reasons, never fulfilled their potential. In 1969 he released a solo album, Oar, which sold nothing at the time, but which is now regarded as a cult classic and a progenitor of DIY lo-fi outsider art.

Hace 4 días · Moby Grape was this super cool band from San Francisco that rocked the scene with their unique blend of psychedelic rock. They were formed by Canadian Skip Spence and Matthew Katz. Katz was the former manager of the Jefferson Airplane and Spence was the Airplane’s original drummer.

Hace 2 días · The drummer appears to be a similar case to Moby Grape’s Skip Spence and Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett — two gifted and inspired songwriters — whose recreational and self-medicating heavy drug intake worsened a serious underlying, undiagnosed mental illness. It’s tragic, but fascinating — and an excellent read.
