Miles Dewey Davis III (Alton (Illinois), 26 mei 1926 – Santa Monica (Californië), 28 september 1991) was een Amerikaans jazz componist, trompettist en multi-instrumentalist. Hij is een van de belangrijkste en meest invloedrijke jazzmuzikanten uit de geschiedenis. Davis speelde naast onder anderen Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington en John Coltrane een zeer grote rol in de geschiedenis van de jazz.
Miles Davis was one of the musicians who introduced the 'Hard Bop' in the mid 1950s. In the late 1960s he started to experiment with electronic instruments and rock and funk rhythms. In the mid 1970s he stopped playing because of health problems, though in 1980 he made an 'electronical' comeback.
