Just goes to show you that taking creative liberties with “Based on True Story” films can result in a backlash that lasts decades. The structure of this documentary is a little bit messy, but it is interesting seeing how Hollywood distorted what Billy Hayes went through and ended up create a Academy Award Winning film the generated negative stereotypes about Turkey.
